Theo Hartman
Hello everyone!
My name is Theo Hartman. I have been a balloon pilot since 2022. Even though I am a relatively new pilot, I have been around ballooning from a young age, starting out as a crew member. My passion for ballooning fits in well with my other passions, weather and climate. I have my B.S. degree in meteorology and PhD in agricultural meteorology from Iowa State University. I enjoy teaching and sharing about meteorology as much as ballooning, having served as a weather official for the Lake Red Rock Balloonfest and the SW Iowa Hot Air Balloon Days and teaching about meteorology at the 2024 Iowa Balloonist Association’s safety seminar.
As a member on the BFA board I believe my perspective as a relatively new balloonist would be useful as we position the BFA for the future and continue to engage with new and experienced pilots, crew, and active balloon enthusiasts. From my background in meteorology, I believe that communication and education about weather is important. As a member on the BFA board, I would advocate for the continued support of weather products that serve balloon operations, support the communication from the BFA to members about weather resources, and emphasize ongoing education for members on weather and how it impacts ballooning operations. I am excited for the future of ballooning and ask for your vote to serve as the Great Lakes Region BFA board member.
Thank you!
Theo
