Penny Suttle, INCUMBENT
My name is Penny Suttle, and for the past three years, I have had the honor of serving as the Director of the Great Lakes Region on the BFA Board. As I seek your continued support and vote, I am driven by a deep commitment to servant leadership and a passion for helping the Balloon Federation of America (BFA) grow and thrive in the years ahead.
My journey in ballooning began in 1988 as a crew member, and since then, I have dedicated myself to supporting the sport and its community. I earned my private pilot certificate in 1989 and my commercial certificate in 1994. Along with being a BFA Life Member, I have had the privilege to serve on the NOBPA Board, where, as part of the Constitution Committee, I contributed to vital constitutional revisions, including opening membership to crew members. It has been my pleasure to serve as President of the NOBPA club four times. I also serve as the Statutory Agent and have been the Balloonowledge Safety Seminar Chairwoman for over a decade, which has allowed me to lead with a focus on education and safety, principles that have been foundational in my personal and professional life.
As a servant leader, my goal has always been to empower others and foster a culture of collaboration. This year, I had the privilege of leading a team that successfully organized the 2025 BFA National Convention and Trade Show in Dayton, Ohio, drawing speakers, attendees, and industry partners from across the globe. The success of this event was a testament to what we can accomplish when we come together with a shared vision.
Together with my husband Paul, I co-chair the BFA’s Continuing Education Program, collaborating with ballooning groups across the country to review and approve their sanctioned safety seminars. As a retired educator and an active leader in the BFA Youth Program, I am deeply committed to promoting a culture of safety and lifelong learning within our community. I’ve had the privilege of serving as a Flight Instructor at both the Keystone and Southeast Balloon Camps, where I help inspire and guide the next generation of balloonists. Our youth are the future of ballooning, and I am dedicated to ensuring they have the mentorship, resources, and opportunities needed to thrive and lead.
I am driven by the belief that the BFA’s best days are still ahead of us, and I want to help lead the organization forward. My experience, passion for safety, and dedication to education will support the BFA in advancing its programs and serving all members, whether they are pilots, crew, or supporters of this sport.
As your board member, I will continue to listen, collaborate, and work diligently to help the BFA grow stronger and more inclusive. I humbly ask for your support and vote as we look to a bright future for ballooning.
